The Notebook (2004)
This romantic movie showcasing an onerous love story has earned a cult status over the years. Think of the movie and the first name that comes to mind is – ❤️ Allie ❤️
Playing Allie, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, McAdams brought in all the sweetness, charm and frivolity expected of a young rich girl.
Wesley Morris for Boston Globe wrote that “she’s soulfully committed to the suds in the story and has been fiercely attentive to the other actors”; whereas Michael Wilmington of the Chicago Tribune declared her “a real discovery”.
Red Eye (2005)
This psychological thriller is seriously gripping. Lisa Reisert (played by McAdams) is held captive by her fellow passenger on a red-eye flight in order to help him assassinate a political figure. McAdams is seemingly impressive in the movie as she projects fear and tension when required, in a discreet yet perfectly poised fashion.
Sherlock Holmes (2009 and 2011)
Inspired by the fictional character of Sherlock Holmes created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this movie displays a new dynamic portrayal of Rachel McAdams as she does well to play the famous convoluted character of Irene Adler, who also happens to be the only love interest of Sherlock Holmes in the books of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Midnight in Paris (2011)
This movie is hailed as one of the best romantic movies in the contemporary cinema. Sweetly sentimental, amusing and enchanting, the movie is a cinematic nonpareil. The movie has McAdams playing the egocentric character of Inez. The filmmaker Woody Allen was quoted saying that he wrote the character of Inez keeping McAdams in mind, and wanted her to be the part of his film as he was “crazy about Rachel” and she seems to have brought the needful bitterness in an otherwise sweet romantic movie.
Spotlight (2015)
McAdams’ stellar performance came in this movie. Alongside Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams plays the role of an investigative journalist named Sacha Pfeiffer. This sociopolitical thriller is based on a true story and displays one of Rachel’s finest acting performances which won her a nomination in the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Her most laudable performance comes in a scene where she skillfully encourages an abuse survivor to open up about his ordeal. In this movie, Rachel is seen playing her character in a subtle yet powerful way.
