You must have heard the phrase “What’s in a name?” Well here’s one woman in the global entertainment industry who is justifying her name completely. She is called ‘Superwoman’. Yes, we are talking about Lilly Singh, the young Vlogger, writer, comedian-actress who posts videos on YouTube presenting multiple cultural contexts, and a plethora of generally faced daily struggles, in a hilarious and a dramatic manner. But then, what makes Lilly Singh a ‘Real Superwoman’?

For the highest-paid female YouTuber of 2016 (that’s Lilly Singh aka Superwoman), posting videos and putting up a stage performance is just one aspect of how she wants to touch millions of lives. There’s more to the story. She defied the limits of altruism and generosity when in one of her live interactive sessions on social media, she offered to pay expenses for people’s rent, education, and even their gym fee!

Apart from that, in December 2015 she started #GirlLove, an online campaign to end what is called girl-on-girl hate. It appealed to the masses and created awareness about how girl-on-girl hate makes someone feel worse from inside. It encouraged girls to pay gratitude and compliment their companions or friends who are females.

What started as a campaign to end hatred, ended up becoming a platform to empower women. Lilly went to Kenya on her ME to WE trip in September 2016 and celebrated her birthday with the African women supporting a global cause with the launch of new #GirlLove campaign. Connecting to the heart of the community, she helped the local women in beading #GirlLove Rafikis and whatever the money was earned from selling those, she used it to send local girls to the school providing them with the primary education, a necessity which most of the girls are deprived of there. As of January 2017, over 32,000 bracelets had been sold. She believes that if every girl in the world starts going to school and starts getting educated, the world will be a significantly better place to live.

She has been supporting the UNICEF’s Youth4Change initiative, a program for youth that brings them together to support their peers and communities in raising voice and acting on issues such as health, hygiene, child labour and gender equality. Facilitating and honouring her work in making an incredible impact in society and creating positivity across the globe, she was appointed as UNICEF’s newest Global Goodwill Ambassador on July 15, 2017. For someone who started posting YouTube videos as a way to treat her depression, this is a massive achievement. She has come a long way to achieve this recognition which many of us could only dream of.

With 12.6 million users subscribed on her YouTube channel, On 16 August 2017, Tubefilter announced that Singh will be honoured at the first-ever Purpose Awards, under the category of ‘Creator Award’ for the positive impact she has made across the globe. While receiving the award, she was very explicit about her notion that the privileged can do one thing, at no added cost, every single day of their life. That thing she mentioned was, to care about the people who do not have a voice to raise.

Guess only Lilly Singh, the real superwoman, can feed the world with such a nutritious food for thought!
